Dear friends and colleagues, on behalf of the Preparatory Committee and the Slovak Maintenance Society we wish to give you brief information on the international conference organised under the auspices of Slovak Minister of Economy, Mr. Ľubomír Harach, PhD., National Forum on Maintenance 2001 The conference followed on the success of the "zero year" of the National Forum on Maintenance 2000, which renewed tradition of organising of specialised conferences in the field of maintenance and repairs of machines and equipment. Objective of the conference was to provide broad space for meetings, exchange of opinions and experience of professionals being active in maintenance and for presentation of knowledge in individual topics of the professional programme. Intention of the conference was to bring objective and actual knowledge on progresses in maintenance, maintenance systems, organisation of maintenance, maintenance information systems in world and in Slovakia. The conference was attended by 120 participants, among them 15 foreigners (Austria, Croatia, Czech rep., Hungary, Germany). There were 33 papers that are included in the conference proceedings. Within the conference there were company displays offering products for maintenance. The first issue of "ÚDRŽBA" (Maintenance) journal published by SSU was introduced. Participants of the conference supported creation of educational system to prepare experts in maintenance management following the EFNMS requirements. This intention was supported also by academic representants - Prof. Juraj Sinay, rector TU Košice, Prof. Peter Zvolenský, dean SjF ŽU Žilina a doc. Marian Peciar, vice SjF STU Bratislava. Co-ordinator of the project was appointed doc. Vladimír Stuchlý, Department of Machinery Maintenance Engineering, SjF, ŽU Žilina. Participants expressed their support to become member of EFNMS.
